While commercial vacancy rates in the Paris region exceeded 10% in 2024, companies face another less visible issue: 60% of their rented office space is poorly or not utilized (up from 40% before Covid). This physical underoccupancy represents enormous waste in companies’ second-largest expense after salaries. The solution lies in digitizing spaces with sensors that measure actual occupancy of offices, meeting rooms, and shared areas. This data then enables smart reorganization of premises, such as grouping teams on the same floor to avoid unnecessarily heating entire buildings, especially given new remote work patterns that concentrate office presence on Tuesdays through Thursdays.
